Fentanyl is a Schedule II controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). The DEA requires that invoices and DEA Form 222 records for Schedule II drugs be filed separately from other controlled (Schedule III–V) and non-controlled drug records.

According to DEA Pharmacist’s Manual:

“Records of Schedule II controlled substances must be maintained separately from all other records of the registrant.”
