Netskope’s global data plane infrastructure uses a combination of DNS and IP-based techniques to direct Netskope Client traffic to the nearest available data plane. When the nearest data plane becomes unavailable, the Netskope Client automatically fails over to the next best available data plane based on latency and availability metrics. This is by design to maintain service continuity, but it can result in suboptimal performance for affected users, as traffic is now traversing a greater geographic distance. The connection itself remains functional, as the failover data plane is operational, but the increased round-trip latency manifests as sluggish application performance for the affected branch office users. On-premises detection failures and DNS failures would result in different and more disruptive client behaviors.
