USGBC LEED-Green-Associate Question Answer
The purpose of a life-cycle assessment in LEED is to evaluate the potential:
Environmental impacts of a building through its life-cycle
Cost impacts of a building through its life-cycle
Safety impacts of a material through its life-cycle
Human impacts of a material through its life-cycle
LEED defines Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as:
“Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analyzes the environmental impacts of a service, material or product through its entire life cycle.”
This makes LCA distinct from Life Cycle Costing (LCC), which evaluates economic impact.
