WEp1: Water Metering and Reporting requires permanent metering capable of monitoring, recording, and reporting total water consumption for potable and alternative water sources serving the building and associated grounds. Whole-project consumption must be reported for each type of water source. Alternative water sources must be metered separately from municipally supplied potable water, and facility managers or tenants must have access to the data. Mechanical-equipment submetering can support more detailed water management and may contribute to WEc1: Water Metering and Leak Detection, but it is not the fundamental whole-project requirement of WEp1. The prerequisite also does not restrict measurement to indoor consumption or require the particular indoor/outdoor separation stated in Option D. Therefore, Option A directly reflects the official LEED v5 prerequisite language.
