How can incoming interfaces determine the ID type to use when looking up a record?

Incoming interfaces must identify the correct ID Type to successfully locate a record in Chronicles. They do this in two primary ways:

Default ID Type: The interface can be configured with a fallback ID type to use if no other information is provided.

External System Settings: The interface can look at identifiers within the HL7 message (like the Assigning Authority in PID-3.4) and match them against the " External System Settings " defined in the ID Type configuration . Option C is incorrect because searching without a defined ID type would be inefficient and could lead to incorrect record matches.
