What is the purpose of data archiving?

Data archiving involves moving data that is no longer actively used to a separate storage system designed for long-term retention. The purpose of data archiving is to free up primary storage space, reduce costs, and ensure that inactive data is stored securely and can be retrieved when needed. Fixed content refers to data that does not change over time, such as historical records, logs, or finalized reports. By transferring this fixed content to archive storage, organizations can maintain the availability of valuable data without occupying high-performance primary storage resources.
