Batch processing is a traditional payroll method where data (such as hours worked or new hire information) is collected over a period of time and then processed as a single group or " batch " . This often involves a specific " cutoff " time after which no further data can be added to that payroll cycle. In contrast, real-time processing (Option B) updates the database immediately as each piece of data is entered. While modern systems often use on-line entry, if the actual calculation of checks and taxes occurs only after all data has been collected, it is still a batch process. Batch processing is efficient for large-scale operations but lacks the immediate feedback and validation found in true real-time environments.
