Disk configuration: Locally-redundant storage (LRS) Premium SSD. Virtual network configuration: One virtual network and one subnet.

Azure Site Recovery explicitly does not support zone-to-zone disaster recovery for virtual machines whose managed disks use zone-redundant storage (ZRS); the source and target disks in a zone-to-zone configuration must instead use locally-redundant storage (LRS), so LRS is the only compatible replication choice among the disk options. Premium SSD is selected over Standard SSD because the requirement is to maximize the availability and performance of VM1, and Premium SSD provides a higher-performance SLA than Standard SSD while still satisfying the LRS requirement for zone-to-zone replication. For the virtual network configuration, Microsoft ' s documented zone-to-zone disaster recovery guidance states that failover can use the exact same virtual network and the exact same subnet as the source VM, because Azure subnets are regional constructs that span every availability zone in a region rather than being tied to one specific zone. Using a single virtual network with a single subnet therefore lets VM1 retain the same private IP address, when that address is configured as static, across both zone failover and the subsequent zone failback, without needing separate per-zone subnets or virtual networks.
