According to API 580 Section 12.1:

"Risk mitigation (by the reduction in uncertainty) achieved through inspection presumes that the organization will act on the results of the inspection in a timely manner. The quality of the inspection data and the analysis or interpretation will greatly affect the level of risk mitigation."
