Pixel density explains why the image appears smaller at 4K resolution when the physical monitor size and magnification level remain unchanged. A 4K display contains substantially more pixels within the same physical screen area than an HD display. As a result, each individual pixel is physically smaller, and an image displayed at its native pixel dimensions occupies less physical space on the higher-resolution screen. Pixel density is commonly measured in pixels per inch. Refresh rate determines how many times the screen updates each second and affects motion smoothness rather than image size. Backlight zones control brightness and contrast in displays that use local dimming. Panel type, such as IPS, VA, or OLED, influences colour reproduction, response time, viewing angles, and contrast.
